Mary Janett Carney Henricks, 80, passed away peacefully at home in Nashville, TN while surrounded by family on Monday, June 7, 2021.
Mary was born in Smackover, AR on November 23, 1940 to H..L and Vestelle Carney. She was raised in El Dorado, AR and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1958. She attended McNeese College in Lake Charles, LA where she met and married the love of her life, Thomas A. Henricks, Jr. on June 6, 1959.
They were blessed with the birth of their three daughters and the family enjoyed a life full of excitement and adventure living in Tommy’s hometown of New Orleans, LA.
Inspired by the beautiful landscapes and culture, they moved to Nashville, TN. in 1988 and they settled into their humble abode in Brentwood. They loved watching the deer and breathtaking seasonal views. In January 2002, Tommy passed away from colon cancer.
Since 1996, Mary has been an Associate Member of The Herb Society of America. She enjoyed volunteering with the organization and attending gardeners workshops throughout the years in various cities. She was an avid gardener and passionate herbalist. Tommy would affectionately call her the lead weeble.
Mary was an amazing seamstress. She handmade her own detailed wedding dress, elaborate ice skating costumes, matching outfits for her three girls and crazy, fun wholesome Mardi Gras costumes for the entire family and friends.
Mary loved traveling with her daughters, spending time with her grand-children and great-grandbabies. For over 25 years, she also enjoyed the monthly lunches with her OTLB (out to lunch bunch).
Mary was a creative soul and an instrument for God in her loving spirit. She allowed God in through her paintings, and poems. Until COPD took her getty up, she was a petite, spunky, blast of sunshine and hope. Mary’s love and commitment to her family, friends, and community remain a lasting source of inspiration. Mary stayed faithful to God and full of hope until her final goodbye.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters and two brothers. Those left to honor her memory include daughters Kelly Henricks, Kathy Broders (John) and Kimberly Leehans (Brett); 4 grandchildren Jeffrey (Ashley) Azzinaro, Christian (Tavia) Azzinaro, Kandace (Brandon) Spotanski and Britt Leehans; 5 great-grandchildren, Zen (Christian), Stella (Christian), Leo (Jeffrey), Bennett (Kandace) and Kennedy (Kandace); three brothers, James Carney, Jerald Carney, Homer Carney and sister, Evie Jean Frisby.
