Born in Detroit, Michigan on May 22, 1929
Departed on September 13, 2020 and resided in Nashville, Tennessee
Mary {Syperski} Corby, born, Mary Stock, 91 years young (b. 5/22/29), died peacefully on Sunday, 9/13/20, in Nashville TN. She was born in Detroit, MI and grew up in Farmington MI with her siblings, Jim (lives in Northville MI), Larry (d. 1/14/2006), Lorraine {Christensen} (lives in Farmington MI), and Vince (d. 7/18/20). Her parents were John Lorain Stock and Genevieve {Susan Brady} Stock.
Mary's life journey was full of light, joy, adventure, as well as tough times, which she turned into great stories. Mary left home when she was 13, becoming a nanny for a couple's two children, and always staying in touch with her family. She had a knack for attracting some wonderful friends and ‘good luck' in her life. She married Ed Syperski (d. 7/4/1978) on Nov. 24, 1950. Apparently, it snowed so much that afternoon, the wedding participants had to stay overnight! (and continue to party?) Mary and Ed had two beautiful girls, Carol (b. 10/18/1952) and Diane (b. 4/23/1956). During a difficult time period in the history of Detroit, Mary decided she and Ed should move. Many garage sales later, they moved to Kona Hawaii (1974). It was paradise - and she already wore toe rings.
Mary's life in Hawaii was blessed with loving friends, laughter and much aloha. After several years, Ed passed and she later met and married Walter Corby on 4/21/1979. New adventures on Capt. Beans' Dinner Cruise and added fun materialized. Walter passed in 1996 (10/8). Mary continued to work, helping to rent out a local vacation house. She also received the endearing nickname, Macy's Mary, as she worked at Macy's until she was 80 years of age. Her connections with people were the most important assets of her life. She knew her friends' family history and became close to their children and grandchildren alike! She embodied the spirit of aloha, of mutual regard and affection, extending warmth and caring with no obligation in return.
Mary created new chapters in her life when she returned to the mainland, first to live with her daughter, Diane and husband, Bob Edelman (2015) near Chicago IL, and then moved south, near her daughter in Nashville TN, Carol {Syperski} and husband, Keith Larson (2017). She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.
She is survived by her two daughters, their children, grandchildren, numerous cousins and countless friends. Our tears on earth transform into the heavenly sparkling brilliance which surrounds her now.
Aloha, Mahalo, and RIP, Mary.
