Mary Mason

Born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 12, 1925

Departed on December 15, 2016 and resided in Franklin, Tennessee

Mary Elizabeth (Dillon) Mason passed away on December 15, 2016, one month shy of her 92nd birthday.

She had a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Preceded in death by Rufus, her beloved husband of sixty-one years.

Mary was a model for breast cancer having survived at age 46. She worked for the Methodist Publishing House, Vanderbilt Department of Physiology, and in 1975 moved to the Emeritus Faculty office at Vanderbilt as an assistant to multiple doctors. In 1993, she retired with great accolades from the Dean of Vanderbilt Medical School for her hard work and dedication over the years.

She was a sweet person and always loved meeting people and spending time with family and friends. She will always be remembered and deeply missed in our hearts with a smile.

She is survived by her children Michael, Bobby, and Melissa and their spouses Pamela, Sherry, and Bruce. Grandchildren Robert, James, Merri Wynne and Hayden and two great-grandchildren Matthew and McKenna.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association Fund. The family would like to thank the staff at NHC Cool Springs for their love, attention, and friendship to Mary. A special heartfelt gratitude to Annisa, Denise, and Pat whose love and affection added may days and years of comfort to Mary the last four years of her life. Now there will be one more empty chair with the sunset on earth, but a sunrise in Heaven.

A graveside service for the immediate family will be held on Tuesday, 11 AM at Harpeth Hill.
