Maxine (Ene) Shields, 92, died March 1, 2016 at Belmont Village, Nashville, TN.
Born in Huron, South Dakota, she attended Northwestern Business College on a scholarship, and later attended the University of Michigan. In Huron she was active in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.
Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hattie Henion and her adopted parents Don and Iris Henion, and by her husband Ben P. Shields Sr, she is survived by her son, Ben P. Shields Jr (Barbara) of Nashville; and granddaughter, Ashley Shields, of London, England; and daughter, Shelley Anne Shields of Cerritos, California.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Pathfinder Sunday School class and a member of the Hillwood Garden Club. In earlier years she was an active member of Cumberland Heights Friends, the Board of Senior Citizens, the Reachout Guild, Cheekwood, and the Woman's Club of Nashville, holding offices in many of these organizations.
An avid bridge player, she was a certified bridge teacher, past secretary and vice-president of Vanderbilt Bridge Club, and attained the rank of Gold Life Master.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. Bruce Wolfe, Dr. Larry Averbuch, and Dr. David Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or the Nashville Humane Society.
At Calvary United Methodist Church, visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday March 3, 2016 and from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Friday at the church, immediately followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
