Meredith Charlton Bains, known lovingly as Papa, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. He was born in Fairview, Tennessee, on September 7, 1938, and built a wonderful life there along with his beloved wife, Barbara, over their 68 years of marriage.
Meredith was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Susie Mae Bains, and his sisters, Evalee, Hattie, and Lora Mae. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; son, Keith (Amy) Bains; daughter, Lynne (Phil) Leverette; grandchildren, Brittany (Joel), Stephany (Joey), Dillon (Alexandria), Macy, Drew (Kylie), and Dyson; great-grandchildren, Archie, Palmer, Deacon, Marley, and baby boy Leverette arriving in June; niece Linda Ballou; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
At the age of 23, Meredith was drafted into the Army, where he served with honor as a member of military intelligence at Fort Hood, Texas. After returning home to Tennessee, he worked as a postal inspector for nearly 30 years, serving his community with dedication and integrity.
Meredith was happiest riding a trail on his favorite horse, Punkin, hunting, fishing, and reading—passions that he eagerly passed down to his family. His quick wit and love of jokes (both practical and impractical) are cherished by all who knew him, providing endless stories at family gatherings and clever ideas for the next generations of Bains kids to try out.
