Michael W. Harper, age 70, of West Nashville, TN gained his angel wings on November 25, 2020 while in home hospice. Born August 1, 1950 to the late Frances Weatherly Denton. Mike enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and was a Vietnam Veteran. After being honorably discharged he was employed by South Central Bell Telephone Company in 1970 and worked as a service tech and lineman for 38 years until his retirement in 2008. His first son, Mikey was born in 1971, only daughter, Adrian in 1979 and second son, Isaac followed in 1981. Mike was a coach at heart. From baseball at Babe Ruth Park to football with the Bellevue Steelers Youth Football Program, many knew him as Coach Harper. Mike gave 19 years of volunteer services to his community by mentoring and coaching hundreds of kids. Coach Harper also contributed many years as a board member with the Bellevue Sports Athletics Association. He met his wife of 27 years, Lisa while coaching football. They were married in 1993. At that time, he gained his 11 year-old bonus son, Dustin. In 2003 he became a grandfather to his grandson, "Willburs", his granddaughter, Kylee Grace and grandson, Taytum followed in 2007. Mike's beautiful, blended family was complete. He loved the mountains, Vandy football, antiques, and history. He had a passion for Harley Davidsons and enjoyed Friday night poker games with his best buddies. The music of Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, and Queen soothed his soul.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lisa Meier Harper; daughter Adrian Harper Walters (Bryan); sons Mikey Harper, Dustin Meier (Amber), and Isaac Harper; grandchildren William Walters, Kylee Grace Priest, and Taytum McCann; father Bobby Denton; sisters Diane Cassell (Barye), Lynn Flair (Ronnie), and Sandy Coombe (Kim); brothers-in-law Mark Meier (Lisa) and Michael Meier (Julie); several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Pallbearers Isaac Harper, Dustin Meier, Bryan Walters, William Walters, Taytum McCann, Brent Weatherly, Mark Meier, and Robert Smith. Honorary Pallbearers Mikey Harper, Michael Meier, Jackie Harper, and Mike Sullivan.
