Mitchell Ray Fortune, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, in Lebanon, Tennessee. Born on December 2, 1941, in Dresden, Tennessee, Mickey was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose impact on those around him will be cherished forever.
Throughout his life, Mickey was actively engaged in the world of music, having worked at the Grand Ole Opry and performed alongside numerous artists in the country music scene. His talent and passion for music shone brightly, reflected in his songwriting, and singing. He was a jokester at heart, known for his generous spirit and ability to bring joy to those he encountered.
Mickey proudly served in the Air Force, dedicating a portion of his life to his country, which showed his strong sense of duty and commitment. In addition to his military service, he enjoyed a variety of hobbies. In his younger years, Mickey loved hunting and fishing, just as much as he enjoyed watching baseball, especially cheering for the Atlanta Braves.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Linda Fortune, and their children: Steven (Nancy) Fortune, Shirley Miller, Lorie Duncan, Debbie (Tommy) Phillips, Rosanne Brown, and Ruth Stilwell. He was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Cindy (Raburn) Woodard, and Georgie Watson, along with numerous friends and loved ones who held him dear.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin R. Fortune, and his mother, Dorothy N. Fortune, brothers, Donald J. Fortune and Richard Fortune.
As family and friends gather to remember and celebrate the life of Mickey Fortune, they are filled with appreciation for the joy he brought into their lives, the laughter he shared, and the music that will forever resonate in their hearts. His spirit will undoubtedly live on in the memories and stories shared by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 10:30am ~ 11:30am with a Celebration of Life at 11:30am and the burial to follow all at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
