Nellie Kennedy McKerley

Nell was born February 12, 1935 in Marion County, South Carolina. Upon graduation from Columbia College she worked at the Bethlehem Center in Chattanooga and then the Chattanooga Welfare Department. In 1959 Nell moved to Nashville and began working for the Welfare Department. Nell received her Master's in Social Work from the University of Tennessee where she received the Rhoda O'Meara Award which recognizes outstanding performance in field practice. Nell finished her working career with the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency in Nashville, where she worked for many years. Nell was a member of Crievewood United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School.

Nell is survived by her sons, Marc (Farah) McKerley, Michael (Susan) McKerley, Keith (Colleen) McKerley; their father, Brian McKerley; grandchildren, Matthew McKerley, Jonathan (Lindsey) McKerley, Hannah (Weston) Duke, Ben (Tori) McKerley, Rebekah McKerley, Sam McKerley, Nathan McKerley, Kate McKerley, Seth McKerley.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Crievewood United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27th, 2019 with visitation starting at 1 p.m.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at NHC Place at the Trace who loved Nell so well. She knew each of you by name and loved you.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crievewood United Methodist Church.
