Norman Lawrence Gibbs, age 80 of Pegram, passed away November 29, 2016 at NHC at the Trace.

Mr. Gibbs was born January 30, 1936 in Nashville and was the son of Elvis Lawrence and Mary Edna Carter Gibbs. He served his country in the United States Army before beginning his working career.

His life of service and dedication was apparent in the fact he was employed with Nashville Electric Service for 30 years, the only company for which he worked. At the time of his retirement in 1987, Norman served as a Line Foreman.

He was married to Dorothy Faye Mangrum for almost 60 years. Their union was blessed with two children: John Lawrence Gibbs and Julie Leann Gibbs.

Norman had a passion for his children and grandchildren. Aside from family, he loved to hunt and fish. His free time, and retirement time was spent at the lake home on Kentucky Lake where he enjoyed "bumping the bottom of the lake and catching catfish." Once cleaned, his fried fish, jalapeno cornbread, and hushpuppies were legend. He was a great cook and freely shared with others.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Elvis Lawrence and Mary Edna Carter Gibbs; and two children: John Lawrence Gibbs and Julie Leann Gibbs; he is survived by his wife: Faye Gibbs; two grandchildren: Kelly Leann Gibbs and Nathan Lawrence Gibbs; and a great-granddaughter: Allison Gibbs, all of Pegram, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM, and from 9:00 - 10:00 AM on Friday, December 2, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Friday, December 2 at 10:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Randy Clark. Burial, with military honors will be in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
