Adkins, Pamela Irene - Preceded in death by husband James A. Stein, mother Edith Scott Adkins and father James Howard Adkins. She was born and lived most of her life in Nashville. She died peacefully at Vanderbilt Medical Center on Saturday, January 18.
Pam is survived by her sisters Missy Richter, Emily Adkins, brother-in-law Ben Smith, nieces Virginia Botha, Sarah Perky and Allison Raber, Bunny Stein Cothren, Shooter Stein, grandchildren, and Godchildren.
Educated in Nashville, Pam graduated with an BS Ed. degree in art from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. She inspired young artists as a teacher at Overbrook School and Harding Academy, and then worked in alumni and special events at Vanderbilt. Pam was a member of Centennial Club and served on the Junior League Board Executive Committee. Her passion for the arts lead her to volunteer board positions at Metro Arts Commission, Nashville Symphony Guild, and Tennessee Dance Theatre. She chaired fundraisers for Tennessee Repertory Theatre and Cumberland Science Museum and used her artistic flare in prop production for Cheekwood Swan Ball and Trees of Christmas.
Pam was devoted to her family, friends, neighbors, fellow painters, art students and church family. Honorary pall bearers are Anderson Spickard, Rick Holton, Jim Humphries, Jim Humphreys, Jim Danielle and Pepe Presley. Active pall bearers are Ben Smith, SJ Botha, Jeff Perky, Hank Raber, Bard Quillman, Bob Miller, Fred Cassetty and Steve Condurelis.
Visitation with the family will begin at 10 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Christ Presbyterian Church with memorial services for Pam at 12 noon, followed by a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers Pam asked that donations be made to Ensworth Elementary School art department.
