Peggy Williams Paschall

Peggy Paschall, aged 87, passed away peacefully Saturday night, June 8th, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

The daughter of Thomas A. and Edna Welch Williams, of Brentwood, she was musically gifted and played the piano from the age of three. She was the first student soloist with the Nashville Symphony in 1948, under the direction of conductor William Strickland, and continued to perform in their Young Artists Series. She earned an undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and a Master's degree in music at Indiana University, where she studied with Menahem Pressler.

In addition to touring for solo recitals and chamber music performances throughout the eastern U.S. she long served as the accompanist for the Nashville Ballet as well as for George Balanchine's master classes for the Memphis Ballet.

Mrs. Paschall shared her father's passion for preserving the natural world and in later years, as a member of the administrative staff of Nashville Tech, she was instrumental in establishing the school's first recycling program. Most recently, she has been a supporter of music education programs at Vanderbilt University and at the W. O. Smith Music School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Scott Paschall, and a daughter, Leigh B. Paschall. She is survived by a son, W. Douglass Paschall of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Macey P. McCullough of Primm Springs, Tennessee; and a grandson, Maximilian W. Paschall of Philadelphia.
