Phillip Joel McFarland

Phillip Joel McFarland, affectionately known as Phil, was born on May 12, 1958, in Dickson, Tennessee. He passed away on September 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family and friends. Phil was a strong fighter with the support of his loving family. He overcame cancer in 1984 and again in 1999, but ultimately, he couldn't beat Interstitial Lung Disease, a side effect of chemotherapy.

Phil was a proud employee at Vanderbilt Medical Hospital, where he contributed numerous years in the environmental services department. He obtained several honorable awards throughout his career. Phil’s commitment to his work reflected his caring nature.

A graduate of Cohn High School, Phil carried a wealth of knowledge and skills throughout his life. He had a passion for watching movies, an interest in cars and electronics, and most importantly, a deep love for his family, friends, and cats.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Margaret Jo McFarland Rushing; his sister, Debbie McFarland; his brother, Mike (Daphne) McFarland; his nephew, Michael McFarland; his niece, Stephanie Jenkins; and his great-niece, Sierra Simons.

Phil was preceded in death by his father, William Hubert McFarland.

Visitation will be held on September 9, 2024, at Harpeth Hills Memory Garden, Funeral Home, & Cremation Center in Nashville, Tennessee, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This will be followed by a funeral service from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, with burial concluding the day's services at 2:30 PM.
