Prentiss Hicks Mcphail

Mr. Prentiss Hicks McPhail age 82, of Fairview, TN. passed away at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. on December 30, 2022, with his family by his side.

Prentiss was born in Memphis, TN. on November 14, 1940, to the late A.D. McPhail and Irene Mays McPhail. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie McPhail and sister, Ruth Daniel and his wife of 33 years, Barbara Williams McPhail. Prentiss was an accomplished musician where he played with some of the greatest artists of his generation.  After 26 years of serving the public, he retired from the Memphis Police Department where he was in the Tact Unit for most of those years.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Fowler McPhail; four daughters, Cynthia M. Vick (Sam), Deborah McPhail, Margie Darling, Patricia Wilson (Jerry) and Taylor Bilderback; one son, Terry McPhail (Kathy); two stepchildren, Tracy Wartenberg (Sandy) and Todd Bilderback, one sister, Bettye McManus, one brother, Billy D. McPhail and a host of loving grand and great grandchildren.

Prentiss had several organizations where he was actively involved including Al Chymia Shrine, Al Menah Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters, the “Q” and a 50 year member of Desoto Lodge No 299.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church in Fairview, TN. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm and at Memphis Funeral Home in Memphis, TN. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to donor’s choice.
