Mrs. Rachel M. Harrison died on Saturday, May 12, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A family funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 16, 2018, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, with the burial being held thereafter at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Harrison was born in Gibson County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Mamie McLemore, the youngest of four children. She married the late Thomas M. Harrison, Sr. on July 16, 1945, and they had four children. She adored her family, and they were always the center of her life. She never remarried after her husband's death in 1986.
Mrs. Harrison was a cosmetologist prior to the birth of her first child and owned her own shop in Jackson, TN. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years and later went to work in the insurance business with her husband and sons, retiring at age 80. Mrs. Harrison was a member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church. Family was the most important thing to Mrs. Harrison and her family supported and loved her throughout her life and illness.
Rachel Harrison is survived by two daughters, Dr. Patsy Zakaras of Gulfport, MS and Debora Carroll of Nashville, and two sons, Thomas M. Harrison, Jr. and Stephen Harrison, both of Nashville. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Rachel Parker and April Khoury of Nashville, Jessica Eiselt of Greenville, SC, Allison Zakaras of Nashville, Dr. Lauren Zakaras of Gulfport, MS, Ian Carroll of San Diego, CA, Taylor Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll of Nashville, and Annie Sellick of Nashville. She has six great grandchildren.
