Richard Leon Marvin, age 72 of Hanford, CA and Franklin, TN, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Richard was born March 7, 1945 in Hanford, CA, and was one of three sons of Wallace Henry "Bud" Marvin and Ila Mae (Hensley) Marvin. He was a member of the Hanford Church of Christ. He retired from the Hanford Elementary School District as the Director of Food Services and had recently begun a relocation to middle Tennessee.

As a young man of seventeen, Richard met an even younger Linda Shore. After dating almost six years, Richard and Linda married June 1, 1968. In the following 49 years, their lives would be blessed beyond measure. He was looking forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage this coming June.

Richard had a spirit of humility and was a loyal friend and encourager. He had a magnetic personality, and his sense of humor and outgoing demeanor allowed him to befriend a total stranger in a short period of time. His Christian faith and wisdom guided him in his marriage, his career, and in raising his family.

Richard had a very strong work ethic. He started a lawn mowing business while he was in elementary school. He used his profits to buy his first lawn mower and to generously buy gifts for his parents. He continued to work diligently throughout his life. In addition to his full-time job, he also farmed 20 acres of plum trees.

Richard found peace and solitude in the mountains. He loved to camp with his family and trout fish from an early age, especially at Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon National Park in California. He and Linda traveled extensively and enjoyed their time together. He was known to capture many of those journeys in his photography. Through it all, though, his greatest joy was simply found in his family. He was blessed with 49 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, was so proud to see both of his sons earn their doctorate degrees, and became a loving grandfather of three. But most of all, he found his greatest peace in his family's committed devotion to Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Gary L. Marvin. He is survived by his wife: Linda D. Marvin; two sons and their wives: Stephen R. and Carren M. (Green) Marvin of Arlington, TN and Eric D. and Susan C. (Woodard) Marvin of Nashville, TN; a brother: Robert W. Marvin of Hanford, CA; three grandchildren: Jase Andrew "Drew" Gallaher, Jackson Ryan Gallaher and Elizabeth Caroline Marvin; and multiple nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home in Nashville, TN. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 1 p.m., with visitation to begin at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
