Richard T. Moore, Sr, 95 of Newbern, TN, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 3, 2016, at his Brookdale Assisted Living residence in Nashville.
Born September 9, 1920, in Newbern, TN, to Kirby E. and Linnie Lee Moore, Richard graduated from Newbern High School in 1938. After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Battle of Okinawa during WWII and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.
Returning to school after the war, he received an MBA from Harvard University in 1947 and a law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1950.
Richard met and married the love of his life, Cornelia Cage of Gallatin, TN in 1949. He returned to Newbern to practice law and help manage his father's John Deere dealership.
Richard served in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1953-1957, and the Tennessee Senate from 1957-1959. He continued serving in the United States Army Reserve until 1978, completing 36 years of service and attaining the rank of Colonel. His interests included veteran's organizations, the Rotary Club and the Methodist Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Kirby E. Moore and Linnie Lee Rainey Moore; brother: Kirby E. Moore, Jr; and by his wife of 53 years: Cornelia Cage.
He is survived by his children: Richard T. Moore, Jr (Anne) and Kirby C. Moore of Nashville, and Harry E. Moore (Sammie) of Dallas, TX; cousins: A. C. Rainey, Jr (Libba) of Nashville and Betty Adams (Bob, deceased) of El Paso, TX; grandchildren: Jordan Vaughan (Dave) and Schuyler Lucio (Frank) of Nashville, Sam Moore (Sara) of St. Louis, Corrie Moore of Little Rock, and Adelaide Moore of Dallas; and great grandchildren: Charlie and Eleanor Vaughan of Nashville.
The family would like to thank and recognize the staff of Brookdale Retirement Center, Cathy Baumeister, Diane Wood and Keith Dunlap, for their loving care.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A Life Celebration for Richard will be Saturday, September 10 at 12:00 noon at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow, with Military Honors, at Crestview Cemetery in Gallatin.
