Richard (Dick) Don Schnittjer- Age 82, Nashville, July 19, 2017
On July 19th, Richard stepped into the arms of our Heavenly Father. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Elizabeth Schnittjer; infant grandsons, Jarrett and Luca Faggioni.
He is survived by his bride of 57 years, Dolores Schnittjer; children, Kimberly Doolan (Tim), Wade Schnittjer (Linda) and Nancy Faggioni (Jan); grandchildren, Alyssa Doolan, Joshua Doolan, Jamie Kenney (Jay), Kellie Francis (Rahkeem), Jacob Schnittjer (Holley), Kaitlin Schnittjer and Gianna Faggioni; great-grandchildren, Hudson Francis, Caiden Francis, Jameson Francis, Grant Kenney and Emmeline Kenney; brother Gary Schnittjer (Sandy), sisters, Maggie Wright and Connie Jorgenson; sister-in-law, Barbara Tolsdorf (Norman).
Richard was born in Anamosa, IA on July 22, 1934. He was raised in Iowa where he graduated from Eagle Grove High School and then attended Iowa State University. He married Dolores Richmond on July 10, 1960 in Armstrong, IA and she was the love of his life. They raised three wonderful children together and they were his greatest joy. He was a Grain Elevator Manager for Cargill Inc. for over 37 years. He loved his work and found joy in working with farmers and their families. Throughout their years together, Richard & Dolores made homes in Swea City, IA; Clarion, IA; Gibson City, IL; Spencer, IA and Nashville, TN. Richard was active in each community they lived in. He was a Volunteer Fireman in Swea City, served on the Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Church in Clarion, the Clarion Chamber of Commerce, and was a leader for the Youth Group in his church. He lived his life unknowingly setting an example for all who knew him and lived according to his convictions of faith and family. In 1996, Richard and Dolores moved to Nashville, TN so they could be close to their children and grandchildren who were the loves of his life. Richard began a Handyman business and enjoyed working with his hands and his son, Wade. He never met a stranger and always had a ready smile.
Visitation will be on 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
