Richard L. Cothern, SSgt (Retired) - Age 83, of Fairview, passed away June 21, 2017.
Richard was an admired, kind, giving, loving and dedicated, father and husband with a great sense of humor. He was best described as a man who had never met a stranger and always willing to help someone in need. He was a retiree of the United States Air Force who served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflict's. He was also a devote Christian, who was a deacon of First Baptist Church in Fairview. In his past time he enjoyed watching NASCAR, traveling, and most of all just being with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, Annie Louise Pruette Cothern and Henry Piper Cothern; step-mother, Anne Elizabeth Newlen Cothern; sisters, Dorothy Cothern & Susan Pate; brothers, James Cothern & Piper Cothern. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mattie Lee Cothern; children, Pamela Owen (Jerry), Teresa Epps (Robert), Ricky Owens (Donna), Tina Olah, John L. Cothern; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Becker, Kathleen Cothern, Carolyn Harper; brothers, Dennis Cothern (Suzanne) and Wesley Cothern; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Life Celebration will be held 11:30am, Monday, June 26th with Dr. Bill Sherman officiating. Visitation will be 3:00pm - 8:00pm, Sunday and 1 hour prior to service on Monday at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN, 37221 harpethhills.com, 615-646-9292
