Richard Hansford Wood- Died peacefully on December 23, 2014 after a brief illness. Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Martha Giles Wood and two brothers Marion Geeslin Wood of Tallahasee, FL and Jack Louis Wood of Macon, GA. Survived by brother Rabun M. Wood, Jr of Maitland, FL; sons Richard H. Wood, Jr (Sandra) of Nashville and Joseph Rabun Wood (Merrie) of Arlington, VA; grandchildren Katherine L. Wood of Birmingham, AL, David H. Wood of Knoxville, TN, Eleanor L. Wood and Anne C. Wood of Arlington, VA.
He was born July 16, 1925, third of four sons to Rabun Macon Wood and Laura Geeslin Wood of Macon, GA. Graduated from Lanier High School of Macon in 1943 then immediately entered cadet training with the U.S. Army Air Corps where he became a B-17 bombardier. In 1949, he received a bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
He moved to Nashville in 1953 with Minneapolis Honeywell and later worked from Southern Sales Co before starting and operating his own manufacturer's sales agency for forty years.
He attended St George Episcopal Church and was a long time member of Hillwood Country Club.
The family would like to thank the staff of Alive Hospice and St Thomas Midtown 5 Kidd, as well as Doctors Judson Rogers and Owen Hartness, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Alive Hospice, 1710 Patterson Street, or a charity of your choice.
