Robert James English, age 87 of Selmer, TN went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sallye Arnold English.

Mr. English was born near Mt. Pleasant, TN on December 2, 1928 to the late Thomas Young English, Jr. & Elisabeth Nelson.

Survivors include son Jay English and wife Brandy; daughter Julie Haygood & husband David; daughter Jenny Platt & husband Rhodes; grandchildren Robert & wife Jessica, Rachel, Rebecca, Thomas & wife Amanda, Jonathan, Sarah Ashley, Caroline Grace, Sarah & husband Jesse, Jacob; great grandchildren Mikey, Katie, Kayleigh & Noah.

Mr. English graduated Haylong High School & furthered his education at Tennessee Tech two years before entering the armed forces. During his military service he completed a course in personnel management. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1950; was stationed at Fort Knox, Fort Bragg, and Fort Harrison & Fort McClellan and served in Korea during 1953 prior to his honorable discharge. He was a Master Mason of Bellevue Lodge # 746 of the Free & Accepted Masons. He was a lifelong member of Belle Meade Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home where a celebration of Jim's life will be conducted at 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of Donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, Jesus Cares, Selmer TN or to McNairy County Health Center in loving memory of Robert James English.
