Robert Nicholas Holzmer, January 16, 2014 age 96 of Nashville, TN.
Robert was born on November 11, 1917 in Hobart, Indiana to the late Nicholas & Eva Holzmer.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret Schroer Holzmer; Children, Theresa, Joseph (Pam), Nancy Calderon (Dan), Nicholas (DeAnna), Mary Peters (Mark), Michael (Tracie); Eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII, serving as a Technical Sergeant in the South Pacific. He also was an assistant band director and proudly played the trombone during his military service.
Upon discharge from the Army, Robert attended Bowling Green Business University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was there that he met and married his wife, Margaret. He graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and subsequently moved to Nashville.
In the early years in Nashville, Robert worked as an accountant for several different companies. He eventually opened his own private practice as a CPA. He also taught accounting at Tennessee State University for over 20 years. He was a lifelong member of the AICPA/TSCPA. He finally closed his CPA practice three years ago at the age of 93.
Robert was deeply committed to his Catholic faith and was a cherished founding member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
He was passionate about music, directing and singing in several choirs over the years. He loved baseball and softball. He particularly loved playing KC softball with his sons well into his 70s.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club and many other local organizations over his lifetime.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 4-7 pm at St. Henry Catholic Church. Rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday, January 24, 2014 at St. Henry Catholic Church. A reception will immediately follow in the parish center.
Burial will take place in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens on Friday following the reception.
