Robert "Bob" Walters of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away at St. Thomas West Hospital on Saturday, April 18, 2020; he was 72 years old.
Born to George and Florence Mishoe Walters in Orland, California on February 18, 1948. Bob went to high school in Pomona, California, and was drafted into the Army at the age of 19.
During his tour in Vietnam, Bob fell in love with his future wife, Lee, while working on an Army base. After Bob's tour, Bob and Lee returned to America to live on an Army base in Fort Hood, Texas. Bob did another tour of duty in Saudi Arabia, while Lee stayed in Texas to take care of their 2 kids - Steve and Sherrie. For his Army service, Bob earned several commendations, including, Vietnam Service Medal w/ bronze service star, Army Commendation Medal and National Defense Service Medal. After being honorably discharged after his service, Bob and Lee moved to California and raised their kids in Pomona.
As a young father with no formal education, Bob went to technical school to learn how to program computers, and build a career in Information Technology. While working as computer programmer and raising kids, Bob went to school to earn Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic University (CalPoly) in Pomona, CA.
Bob could make friends very easily, and was constantly cracking jokes. He eventually retired as a CIO, and began traveling, plus he was an avid model train builder and collector. He also enjoyed lots of family time with his brother (Mike) and other family members.
He loved watching his grandkids (McKenna and Jason) play their sports - soccer and baseball.
Bob moved to Nashville to live with his daughter (Sherrie) and her husband (Steve). On social occasions, he always enjoyed a good Scotch, cigar and jazz music. He was a member and officer of the local VFW Post 4893.
Bob is survived by his son, Steve Walters (Elizabeth) and daughter, Sherrie MacWilliams (Steve); granddaughter McKenna Walters; and grandson, Jason Walters.
A private Funeral Service with Military Honors was held Friday, April 24, 2020 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, Nashville, Tennessee.
