Mrs. Roberta A. Childress of Nashville, TN passed away at the age of 89 on February 27, 2018 at her home. She was born on November 5, 1928 in Lewis County, TN to the late William J. Armstrong and Betty Chandler Armstrong. She was one of ten children.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of forty-four and a half years, Mr. Jess W. Childress. Mrs. Childress is also preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Cole, Margie Chamberlain, Jo Bryson, Peggy French, Tommie Armstrong, and Rebecca Armstrong.
She is survived by her two sons, Joe T. Childress and Edd R. Childress; three sisters, Betty French, Martha McCarty and Lana Ashley. She is also survived be her friend and caregiver, Gloria Boyd.
Mrs. Childress' sons remember her for many things. Her love for them of course, but also her love of gardening, cooking and reading. Reading the Bible and being involved in her church was something she was incredibly passionate about. Her Christian faith could be witnessed in her care for others.
A Life Celebration service will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:00am at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on McCrory Lane in Nashville, with burial following. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 4:30pm - 7:00pm at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
