Russell Eugene Day, age 90, of Whites Creek, TN went to be with his heavenly father Thursday, October 15, 2020. He was born in Whites Creek, TN on July 16, 1930 to the late William (Willie) Day and Rebecca Jane Hutchinson Day Buchanan. He is preceded in death by his daughter Terry Chambers Day, his stepfather Felix Buchanan and his siblings; Evelyn Day Roberts, William T. Buchanan, James L. Buchanan, Lionel A. Buchanan, Sarrah E. Buchanan and Edward L. Buchanan.
Russell was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Navy where he served starting at the age of 17. He was married to Betty Jean Smith on May 8th, 1953. They eloped to Rossville, GA; Russell was 22 and Betty was 16. They raised their family together in Nashville, TN before moving to Whites Creek, TN where they retired. For several years he served as a Deacon of Calvary Pentecostal Church and was known by his friends and family as a kindhearted and loving man. Russell's primary passion in life outside of his family was fishing. He loved to be on the lake and was noted countless times in the local paper for his fishing accomplishments. He also enjoyed working in the yard and took pride in making his home something to be proud of.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Day; sister, Bonnie Buchanan; son, Russell C. Day; daughter, Sharron D. Cart; grandchildren, Jeremy Cart, Chrystal Chambers, Rebecca Sura, Lee Chambers, Benjamin Chambers, Brian Day; great grandchildren, Austin Sura, Annabella Sura, Sebastian Cienfuegos, Amberleigh Cienfuegos, Haley Chambers, Kayliauna day, Brian Day Jr., Abigail Cart.
The family will receive friends from 12-2pm Tuesday, October 20th at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home (Highway 100). A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 2pm in the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with Brother Walter George and Brother Danny Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the garden of Gethsemane of Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens with military honors. Flowers for the service are welcome and/or donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
