Born in Starkville Mississippi. Daughter of Spencer Murray and Elizabeth Castles Murray. Graduated Cum Laude from Mississippi State Collage for Women Bachelor of Science (Bacteriology) 1950. Received her M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine 1956 And received her M.P.H. in 1968 from Johns Hopkins University
Her career began as a County Health Officer of the Mississippi State Board of Health in 1961. She became instructor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt 1957-1961 Assistant Professor in Department of Preventive Medicine Vanderbilt 1968-1969 Assistant Professor (Epidemiology) Department of Family and Community Meharry Medical Collage 1969-1971 Head of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Section Mid South Regional Program 1971-1973 And Director of Tuberculosis and Venereal Disease Control both at Metro Health Dept. 1973-1977 She was Associate Director of Clinical Investigation and Director Occupational Health and Safety Smith Kline French / Smith Kline Beckman 1977-1990. She was the Medical Director Bureau of Manpower and Facilities 1990 and Bureau of Health Services at Tennessee Department of Health 1990-2007 And retired from Vanderbilt Medical Center Health Plus 2008. She held membership and board positions in the professional Societies of Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Occupational Health, OSHA, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Examiners for Nursing Homes Administrators, Tennessee Dept of Health Perinatal Advisory, and Review of Medical Services Evaluation Committee.
She was wife of Robert G Hagstrom (deceased 2008) and had two children. Son Robert G. Hagstrom Jr, (married to Margret Hagstrom two sons Robert G. Hagstrom III, John Spencer Hagstrom.) Daughter Catherine Hagstrom Green (married Jessie Jack Green III two children Robert Madison Green (Laura Bopp Green) Tori Catherine Green ( Sarah McDaniel ))
