Sadie Polk Evans of Nashville passed away September 18, 2019 at the age of 89. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and registered nurse. A strong, hard working southern lady til the end, Sadie put others ahead of herself and was well known for her faithfulness, devotion and kindness to everyone.
Sadie grew up in Spring Hill, TN and was a graduate of Spring Hill High School. Sadie's nursing profession was her calling. She graduated from the St. Thomas School of Nursing and was always active in the school's alumni association. She was a registered nurse at Baptist Hospital and she later served as the occupational health nurse and clinic director at the Baptist Sunday School Board until she retired. Active in professional organizations, she was named 1988 Tennessee's Occupational Health Nurse of the Year.
Sadie was married to Jim Evans for 56 years. Together the team of Sadie and Jim were unstoppable, especially enjoying many happy times together at their beloved Kentucky Lake. Upon her husband's passing in 2011, Sadie continued to enjoy her grandchildren and their events, caring for her garden and baking treats. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Nashville.
She is survived by her children Jim Evans, Jr. (Beth) of Maryville and Nancy Parrish (Nate) of Nashville, her brother Joe Polk (Dee) of Cookeville, Renee' Evans of Knoxville, grandchildren Caitlin Evans, Nikki Mount, Nate Parrish, Jr., Cole Parrish, Elizabeth Parrish and Corinne Parrish, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Ed Anderson and the medical staff of St. Thomas West, as well as Sadie's devoted caregiver Aretha Vaughn. Sadie's time at NHC Place at the Trace in her final months was a blessing and her "Breakfast Table Ladies" and many resident friends became her family too. The family extends our deepest appreciation to the Trace staff.
Visitation with the family will take place Tuesday, September 24 at 10:00 am at the chapel of Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, TN with service and interrment to follow at 11:00 am with Dr. Frank Lewis officiating.
