Sally Stach

April 18, 1933 — October 10, 2022

Sara Johnston Stach (April 18, 1933-October 10, 2022) passed away peacefully at home. Sally is survived by children Jane Marsh (Steve) and Steve Jones (Lisa); brother - Lynn H. Johnston; grandchildren – Graham Hutcheson, Allison Boyce, Amanda Wray, Drew Elliott, Alex Marsh, Bailey Shouse, and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother (Sara Carnes Johnston) and father (Hugh Lee Johnston), along with siblings Jane, Hugh, Robert, Joe, and Patricia. Sally is now reunited with her beloved husband Ken.

Sally grew up on a city-farm in Woodstock, Georgia, where she learned how to bake a nickel’s worth of bread from a penny’s worth of flour. Her industriousness and creativity in the home and kitchen always kept her family well-fed and on their toes, never knowing what new dish would be prepared. But one constant remained: it was always prepared and planned with love and attention, causing her to never tire of discovering – and sharing – new recipes.

Sally’s sense of adventure extended beyond the kitchen, once planning and taking the family on a six-week long camping road trip, exploring mountains and seashores in a pop-up camper. That was only preparation for the three months spent camping in Pennsylvania while the family relocated for a new job. And who will forget the Christmas pop-up camper family “vacation” to Naples, Florida, spent with big sister Jane and her mom? Who knew six people could fit inside a 1965 Impala?

If Sally wasn’t sitting on her back porch watching the birds or the garden grow, she was headed to a favorite shopping mall to find the latest bargains. Always a sharp dresser, she never tired on being dolled up. Sally’s eyes always lit up whenever someone mentioned going on any adventure.

Sally, aka “The Diva,” was loved by and loved her community at The Bridge, where she could often be found participating in activities or long walks outside. And, if you were lucky, you might just be the recipient of one of her “regal waves.”

Sally, a lifelong member of church, became a member in 2013 at St. Marks, where she shared her love for God with her Sunday school friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to St. Marks United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held at 3 PM Monday, October 17, 2022, at St. Mark’s in Murfreesboro, with a memorial service following at 4 PM.
