Sarah Elizabeth Cathey, passed away on December 5, 2024, in Dickson, TN, at the age of 78. Born in Nashville, TN, on September 23, 1946, Sarah's journey was one marked by a fierce spirit and an unwavering love for her family.
Preceded in death by husband James O. Cathey, Sr.; grandson Joseph Miller; parents Clear and Roberta Pedigo; siblings Hansford Pedigo, James “Cotton” Pedigo, Stella Williams, Debbie Boman.
Survived by her children Sylvia Miller, Darlene (Mike) Swaw, James (Julie Ann) Cathey, Julie Cathey; grandchildren Justin (Genevieve) Miller, Rachael (Jon) Thomason, Timothy (Alleigh) Bradshaw, Shawn (Ashley) Henry, Beth (Greg) Moore, Ashley (Chase) Aulidge, Kelsey (Sam) Shelton, Kimberly (Brandon) Wilson, Annie (Matthew) Groves, James Roy Cathey, Karmen (Wyatt) Jackson; 18 great grandchildren; sisters Judy (Floyd) Cross, Ella Ben) Rigby, Brenda Ferguson; baby brother Larry (Kathy) Pedigo as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Known for her spitfire personality and her feisty nature, Sarah brought joy and laughter to the people around her. Her passions were as diverse as her character; she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from watching stock car racing to growing and canning vegetables in her youth. Those who gathered around her table were treated to her exceptional cooking skills—her homemade biscuits, tomato gravy, and famous potato salad were anticipated by family and friends alike.
Sarah had a deep love for travel, finding peace and joy by going to the beach and the serene beauty of the mountains. She treasured trips with her sisters, where there was plenty of laughter and stories. She loved her family fiercely and dedicated herself to the joys of motherhood and grand-motherhood—becoming the best Grannie one could ever hope for. She cherished her grandchildren, especially Karmen and Gracelynn, who held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in every moment spent with them.
A celebration of Sarah's life will take place on December 10, 2024 from 10:30am ~ 1:30pm with a Celebration of Life at 1:30pm and the burial to follow all at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
As we gather to honor her memory, we will reminisce about Sarah’s incredible stories and the mark she leaves on our hearts. Though she may no longer be with us, the legacy of her love and her fiery spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
