Sheila Wood, born on October 4, 1958, left this world on January 20, 2025, but her spirit will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew her best. Sheila was a well-respected secretary clerk in the Metro Davidson County school system for 34 years. Her professional life was a testament to her tenacity and work ethic, values that she held dear throughout her life. She was the first face that everyone saw as they walked into the school. She touched the lives of so many children, and parents alike, during her time working.
Sheila is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Inman Jr. and Betty Jean King; and sister, Diane Inman Medina.
Sheila is survived by her loving husband, Mark Wood; daughters, Tisha (Kim) Mason, and Jessica (Michael) Highsmith; stepson, Dalton (Kayla) Wood; and grandchildren, Matthew, BrookLynne, and Parker James.
Beyond her career, Sheila was a woman who embraced life with an open heart and an infectious laughter that could light up any room. She never met a stranger; her warmth and kindness drew people in, making them feel valued and cherished, so much that she acquired the nickname “Sunshine”. Sheila's compassion extended far beyond her family and friends, as she generously took care of the homeless, showcasing a sense of empathy that resonated deeply with everyone.
A true lover of nature, Sheila possessed a remarkable green thumb. Her garden was a vibrant tapestry filled with cherry tomatoes, orchids, rose gardens, moon plants, and an assortment of leafy green plants. The joy of planting and tending to her blooms brought her peace and fulfillment.
Sheila's passions did not end with her garden. She found delight in fishing, kayaking, and spending time with horses, which represented her adventurous spirit and love for the great outdoors. The playful world of clowns also held a special place in her heart, reflecting her ability to find joy in the whimsical aspects of life.
Sheila brought an extraordinary amount of love, laughter, and kindness to everyone’s lives. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion that will inspire others to live with the same open-hearted spirit that she embodied. She will be deeply missed.
