Shirley Heist (Morgan) Humphrey, age 86 of Nashville, passed away April 5, 2017. Born in Nashville, TN to the late Charles A. Heist, Jr. and Clara Turner Heist. Graduated from Isaac Litton High School (1948), Middle Tennessee State University B.S. (1958), Peabody Vanderbilt MA & EdS (1965). She began her teaching career at St. Edwards and then taught in Metro Public Schools until her retirement with 41 years of service combined. She received many awards during her varied teaching career. Shirley was a loving Momma and Grams. She was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She tirelessly advocated for animal rights. She was an outstanding cook and loved traveling to spend time with her family.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles A. Heist, III, and her husband Alan L. Humphrey.

Survived by the father of her children, Joe Morgan, Sr, devoted children: Diane Morgan Garrett (Jerry), Cissie Morgan Hughes (Eddie), Joe Morgan, Jr., Dawn Morgan Bagby. Grandchildren: Suzanne Evans (Justin), Amanda Tobin (Caitlin), Meghan Beltz (Ray), Emily Hughes, Colleen Garrett, Kathleen Pence (Christopher), Chip Hughes (Mary Margaret). Great-Grandchildren: Maya Evans, Haley Beltz, Bentley Beltz, and Baby Hughes. Nieces and nephew: Charlene, Susan, and Charles T., and many dear friends.

Visitation with the family will be Monday, April 10 from 4-8 PM at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home Hwy 100 (615) 646-9292. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 11, in the chapel of St. Henry Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery 660 Thompson Lane. Her grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers.
