Mrs. Shirley Anne Jones Johnson, 85, of Kingston Springs, Tennessee passed away on November 9, 2022. Shirley was born on November 12, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Jessie Abner Jones and Ralthie Hueola Saunders. Shirley grew up in Whiteville, Tennessee and went on to attend Memphis State University before earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Library Science from Southwest Missouri State College. She taught elementary school and library science at schools in Missouri and Cheatham County, Tennessee for many years. She loved to cook, cheer on the Lady Vols, travel domestically and abroad, serve others in need, and above all spend time with her family. Her love of family was surpassed only by her love of God. She was selfless, thoughtful, generous, and full of grace.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Charles Hirst Johnson, brother Calvin Lewis Jones, son Charles William Johnson and daughter Sandra Jean Johnson (Jim) Dalton. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Thomas Edwin Johnson. She leaves grandchildren Lindsey (Shaun), Gretchen (Steve), Jacob (Cassandra), Laura, Caitlin, Drew, Marliese, Meredith, Morgan and Gabrielle. She leaves great-grandchildren Michael, Alexandra, Cameron, Gabriel, Lilly and Sadie. Special thanks to caregivers Anita Williams and Lori Harrington for their love and friendship.
Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, November 14, from 9:30 – 11:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 am at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, Tennessee. There will be a short graveside service at 12:30 pm, followed by lunch at the Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens Pavilion.
