Shirley Carter Robert, widow of James R. Robert, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who filled the lives of those around her with warmth and compassion.
Survived by her loving children Billy Joe (Debbie) Carter, Jonathan Lee (Kathy) Carter, Jan Carter Stumbo, Jean C. Atkinson, James Ralph (Irene) Robert, Jr., Michael Arthur (Deb) Robert; grandchildren Caroline (Brad) Gresham, Julia Carter, Nicholas (Christy) Carter, Alexander (Jane) Carter, Morgan (Tyler) Jones, Carter (Haley) Atkinson, DeMoss Stumbo, Dewey Stumbo, James (Karlie) Robert III, Matthew Robert, Piper Robert, Walker Robert, Anthony Meza, Natalie (Joe) Meza-Johnson, Marcos Meza; great grandchildren, Elijah Robert, Jeremiah Robert, Kylie Robert, Noah Carter, Maeve Carter, Nicholas Carter Jr., Abigail Carter, Marceline Carter, Riley Jones, and Lila Carter-Rasmussen, and two loving sisters: Grace Clanton and Polly P. Dodson
Shirley had an unwavering commitment to her church and her faith. She joined Concordia Lutheran Church in 1988. She served multiple terms leading the Lutheran Women’s Ministry League (LWML) chapter, was head of the Altar Guild for a long time. She served on the Church Council, as part of various boards over time.
Shirley had a deep love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Her passion was welcoming people into her heart and home. She enjoyed traveling the world and playing bridge. She loved cooking and had a servant’s heart. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be forever missed. May she go in peace as she joins her Lord and Savior.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 10:30am to 12:30pm with the Funeral Service starting at 12:30pm at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3501 Central Ave, Nashville, TN 37205. The burial will immediately follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens 9090 Highway 100 Nashville, TN 37221 with a reception to follow from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the pavilion at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
