Robert S. "Steve" Dahl, 71, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born October 3, 1946, in Kansas City, MO.
Steve was a 1964 graduate of Seaman High School in Savonburg, Kansas. He attended college at Washburn University in Topeka, KS. He began his musical career at the age of 14 as the lead singer and front man in a series of bands, culminating in The Red Dogs. After hanging up his trumpet, Steve turned his focus towards others and began promoting fellow artists, which resulted in him becoming a well-known and even more well-respected booking agent in Lawrence, KS, Denver, CO, Tulsa, OK, and Nashville, TN. With hard work and "never give up attitude," Steve came to Nashville to open the local Monterey Peninsula Artists office. Respected industry wide, he served stints as Vice President and Director-at-Large for the Academy of Country Music, served on the boards of the International Association of Fairs & Expositions, the International Entertainment Buyers Association, and the Country Music Association, and was a two-time Pollstar Awards nominee for Third Coast Agent of the Year.
In 1983, he married his lifelong sweetheart, Beth Munson, and spent the next 34 years being her best friend, consummate husband and father, and "the calm to our crazy, the glue of our family."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Velma Dahl, and his daughter Melanie Bush. He is survived by his wife, Beth; son, Steven; and daughter, Bailey.
Steve was a father to three, but a "Papa Dahl" to many. With a smile on his face, a mischievous twinkle in his eye, and a generous heart, Steve always aimed to help others whether they were established artists or newcomers trying to break in to the business. Steve will always be remembered as a treasured friend, mentor, and confidante to friends, family, artists, business associates, and industry organization members, alike. And of course, he was a passionate Jayhawk.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 28th at Harepth Hills Memory Gardens & Funeral Home from 2:00-6:00 PM, with service following at 7:00. The Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday November 29th from 6:00-10:00 PM at Cannery One.
