Elizabeth Sue Mixon Von Hagen, 76, came into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, January 21 surrounded by family and friends at her home after a seven-year battle with Alzheimers.

Sue and her twin sister, Anne, were born in Greenville, South Carolina, to Lt. Colonel Basel Mixon and Florence Mixon. As a military family the twins, along with younger siblings Manley and Madeleine, moved around the United States and after living in Okinawa, Japan, they settled in Nashville, Tenn. where Anne and Sue were seniors at West High School. Sue met Arnold Von Hagen at Woodmont Baptist Church in 1961 and they were married there in 1963. She earned her bachelor of science from George Peabody College for Teachers and graduated in 1965.

She and Arnold raised three children in Nashville and were active members of both Woodmont Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Nashville. They were married for 56 years. In the early part of their marriage Sue was primarily a homemaker, and was involved in various home economics groups. In later years she worked for O'Rear Financial Planners and Orr/Houk Architects as an administrative assistant. She also served Bellevue Baptist Church as a church secretary and was the bookkeeper for Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes.

Most important to her, however, were the ministries she served. She was a discussion leader and later Children's Director for Bible Study Fellowship. She was a mentor to ladies attending the Christian Women's Job Corps program at FBC, Nashville. She worked in prison ministry for many years by leading weekly Bible studies in the Tennessee Prison for Women. She and Arnold also travelled the country with The Baptist Expression of Marriage Encounter leading weekend retreats for couples working to improve their marriage.

She and Arnold spent much of their free time enjoying lake trips and boating outings with their children and nine grandchildren. Her last few years they went on many adventures across the country in their RV.

She has many loved ones that miss her including her husband, Arnold Von Hagen, her children Hallie (Allen) Von Hagen McDavid, Todd (Lynn) Von Hagen and Drais (Paige) Von Hagen, and grandchildren, Matthew (Morgan) McDavid, Maddie McDavid, Will McDavid, Blake Von Hagen, Lindsey Von Hagen, Grant Von Hagen, Nate Von Hagen, Franklin Von Hagen and Annie Von Hagen.

A memorial service is planned at First Baptist Church, Nashville on Saturday, January 25th at 1pm in the sanctuary. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 11:30am. Parking will be available behind the Customs House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Christian Women's Job Corps or the Nashville Rescue Mission.
