Thomas Francis Shaughnessy of Westport, Connecticut, peacefully passed away surrounded by his wife and six children at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, April 3, 2018; he was 89 years old.
Mr. Shaughnessy, retired as a Vice President and General Sales Manager at Conagra Inc., the agricultural and food-processing conglomerate in Omaha, NE.
Mr. Shaughnessy is preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Frances Bailey Shaughnessy, sisters Kathleen Conway and Beth Koop, and brother John Shaughnessy.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years Mary Tushaus Shaughnessy; son Tom Shaughnessy (Linda); daughter Mary Kay Allen (Bruce); daughter Elizabeth Dennis (Bob); daughter Peggy Shaughnessy Lyon (Ross); son Pat Shaughnessy (Teri); son John Shaughnessy (Nicole); eleven grandchildren, Kathryn Shaughnessy, Quinn Shaughnessy, Max Allen, Patrick Dennis, Caleigh Dennis, Thomas Dennis, Sarah Lyon, Maeve Lyon, Gianna Shaughnessy, Jack Shaughnessy, and Patrick Shaughnessy. He was an exemplary Christian, Catholic, father and friend, bringing joy to all who knew him. His incredible love for his wife, Mary, and love of family was one for the ages. He unknowingly served as an example of how to live an honorable and fulfilled life. A native of St. Paul, MN, Tom graduated from Cretin High School in 1946 and the College of St. Thomas in 1950 where he played first base and was Team Captain. He served in the army during the Korean War and worked for the same company his entire career. In his golf game, he recently shot his age so his life was complete! He will always be cherished by those who were lucky to have known him.
A Memorial service will be held at Assumption Church in Westport, CT on May 12 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cretin-Derham Hall in honor of Thomas F. Shaughnessy Graduate of Cretin 1946.
