Tom Buresh

Tom K. Buresh, 86, died peacefully on December 2, 2013 at his home in Franklin TN. He was the youngest of three sons born to James F. and Alice Atkinson Buresh on August 3, 1927 in Sioux City, IA. He graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1945 and served in the US Navy until the end of WWII in 1946. He attended Morningside College while working with the Soil Conservation Service and married Bonnie Toner, his high school sweetheart in 1950. He later attended Iowa State University where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1955.

In 1955 the Bureshes moved their young family to Marshalltown, IA where Tom began a career with Fisher Controls, later Monsanto and Emerson, that spanned 27 years. He was initially hired as a product design engineer and retired in 1983 as the Director of Evaluation and Analysis. After retirement Tom and Bonnie moved to Fort Myers FL until 2003 when they relocated to Franklin TN. Tom was a devoted husband and father with a keen interest in sports, especially tennis during their years in Florida. He was a communicant of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert D. Buresh. He is survived by his brother James F. Buresh of Marshalltown, IA, Bonnie, his loving wife of 63 years, and their 8 children: Judi Robertson (Bob) of Nashville, Tom J. (Danelle Guthrie) of San Francisco, CA, Dan of Issaquah, WA, Mary of Tama, IA, Nancy Goecke (Jeff) of State Center, IA, Bob of Frisco, TX, John (Jaimie Potter) of Leesburg, VA and Jeff (Anne) of Charlotte, NC, 15 grandchildren; Matt Robertson (Heather), Joe Robertson (Rebekah Bassel), Jill Robertson, Ryan Buresh, Nathan Naylor, Blake
(Shelisa) Hand , Elise (Travis) Dolash, Jamie Youker, Meghan Youker, Brittni (Jeremy) Williamson, Nicki Buresh, Mallori Buresh, Kyle Buresh, Anne Patterson Buresh and Hunter Buresh and 6 great-grandchildren; Andrew Robertson, Emma Robertson, Mollie Kate Robertson, Dylan Naylor, Grace Dolash and Lyla Dolash.

A Visitation and Vigil Service will be held from 5-7PM on Thursday December 5 and a Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10AM, Friday, December 6, 2013, both at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Franklin TN. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens in Nashville TN.
