Virginia Graves

Virginia “Ginny” Mae Dawson Barwick Graves, 74, passed away on January 20, 2024, in Nashville, TN. She was born on December 12, 1949, in Nashville, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Jackson Dawson and Elizabeth “Betsy” Jane Tacker Dawson, and first husband, Larry Barwick. She is survived by her husband, Harold Morgan Graves, Jr. of Nashville, TN, her daughter, Jennifer Lee-Ann Graves Farrow, son-in-law James Walter Farrow, grandson William “Liam” James Farrow, and soon to be born granddaughter, Emma Katherine Farrow of Corpus Christi, TX, and sister, Elizabeth “Ann” Dawson of Bridgeport, AL.

She was a long-time member of West End Church of Christ and, more recently, Charlotte Heights Church of Christ. She was very involved in the activities of the Ladies’ Bible Class and various works within the church. She enjoyed participating as a staff member at church camp, helping with Room-in-the-Inn, sewing bears for the hospital, taking in those who needed help, and much, much more. She also enjoyed taking framing, painting, and pottery classes at the Cohn Senior Center and became quite good at all three. She sewed shirt pillows and had a few vendor booths to sell her handiworks, and she went on many vacations to historical sites across the U.S. with her family. However, her love of music was the highlight of her adult life. She participated in many musicals in high school such as “Oklahoma” and “My Fair Lady.” After graduating from Corinne L. Cohn High School in 1967, she attended Freed-Hardeman College where she sang in the Madrigal choral group until she graduated in 1969. She enjoyed attending choral reunions at Freed-Hardeman to sing in the chorus with her daughter, Jennifer, whom she was a stay-at-home mom to after many years of working in Medicare billing. She had a larger-than-life personality, a smile that lit up a room, and a story for every occasion. She will be deeply missed by all those with whom she came into contact.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 9:00 - 11:00am at Charlotte Heights Church of Christ (6833 Old Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN, 37209) with the funeral service following. Josh Barnett, minister at Charlotte Heights Church of Christ will be officiating. Burial to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens (9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN, 37221).
