Virginia Holland

December 14, 1943 — January 16, 2025

Virginia Ann Holland, 81, born in Citronelle, Alabama, on December 14,1943, left this world for heaven on January 16, 2025.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James Holland, and is survived by her daughter, Monica Holland Gurley (Dan), her son Jonathan Kyle Holland (Elena), and two stepsons, James Holland Jr. and Richard Holland. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

The youngest of six children, Virginia was the last surviving sibling of her family. After graduating high school, she moved to Mobile, Alabama, where she worked as a telephone operator at Bell South. It was there that she met and later married, James Holland, whom she was devoted to for 54 years.They had two children together, Monica and Jon, and resided primarily in Birmingham, Alabama. After earning her license, Virginia sold real estate in the 1970s. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, volunteering, walking the hills of Vestavia, planning family reunions, loving on her grandchildren, and cooking for others. During her time in Birmingham, she was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church where she was served selflessly.Virginia’s generous spirit, joyful attitude, and servant’s heart will always be remembered by her friends and family. She will be dearly missed.

A memorial and visitation will be held for Virginia March 14 at 2:00pm in the Briarwood Presbyterian chapel in Birmingham, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the The Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (the aftd.org) in her honor.
