Virginia T. Moynahan, born January 16, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Eleanor and Jerome Thomas passed away in her home in Brentwood, TN on February 27, 2024.
Ginny was a graduate of Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN where she worked her way through school with several jobs including the mailroom and as a switchboard operator. She loved science and art and became an elementary school teacher upon graduation. She lived in Darien, CT for 44 years, where she and her husband raised their family before moving to Brentwood, TN in 2013.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jack Moynahan. She is survived by her children, Laura Moynahan, Mark Moynahan, Kate Moynahan, Tricia Spehr, her Husband William and three grandchildren Tyler, Grace and Henry.
Ginny was a remarkable woman whose support of her husband Jack was invaluable to the success of his 39 year career at MetLife. As he told everyone at his retirement party, he would never have achieved all he did without his amazing wife, Ginny at his side.
She was a true renaissance woman. She was a talented watercolor artist and resourceful homemaker who was even able to repair her own appliances. She had a love of travel, the arts, gardens and animals.
She was possessed with a charitable soul and spent many hours volunteering with various charities including the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society and PBS telethons. She was always active in her church and taught religious education for many years.
She had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord and the Holy Roman Catholic Church which infused every aspect of her life. She was awarded the honor of serving as a Dame in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
Ginny Moynahan lived a full and rewarding life but the most important lesson she instilled in her family was to cherish everyday as a gift from God and to share the blessings He has showered on us.
The funeral Mass will be held on March 7th at 11am at St. Henry Catholic Church, Nashville, TN. Visitation will be held in the church narthex beginning at 10 am.
