Obituary for Wanda “Gale” Curtis Mitchell of Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville, Tennessee’s Wanda “Gale” Curtis Mitchell, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 83 on July 17th, 2023, after a prolong illness.
Gale, the middle of three sisters, born to Bert and Irene Curtis, was born in Lafayette, Tennessee but raised in West Nashville from the age of 4 throughout her youth before marrying her Cohn High School senior year sweetheart, Albert D. Mitchell. Together, they raised sons Curt and Clif on the southwestern border of Davidson County where they remained until her passing. Gale lived her life devoted to her heavenly Father and extremely proud of her family. At her proclaimed 5’-4¾” stature, she was unintimidated by the three men under her roof, and she relished the opportunity to feed family, lifelong high school, and church friends. Gale was the prototypical southern bell. She never left the house without looking her best and she yielded equal measures of grace and authority. She served Nashville’s healthcare industry as an accomplished office manager primarily with a St. Thomas Hospital private practice for 30 years. Gale worshiped most of her life at Park Avenue Baptist Church but was part two church plants in Cross Timbers Free Will Baptist Church and Bellevue Community Church and fellowshipped at Christ Presbyterian Church, Bellevue Baptist Church, Forrest Hills Baptist Church, and Grace Community Church.
Gale leaves behind, her husband of 64 years, Albert D. Mitchell of Nashville, TN, her sons Curt Mitchell (wife Rebecca) of Franklin, TN and Clif Mitchell (wife Ann) of Nashville, TN, her younger sister Judy Alexander of Kissimmee, FL, her grandchildren, Lindsey McComber (husband Justin) of Thompson Station, TN, Whitney Crawford (husband Cody) of Chapel Hill, TN, Albert C. Mitchell (wife Lindsey) of Franklin, TN and Donald Mitchell (wife Madison) of Nashville, TN, Step grandchildren Cannon West (wife Jacqueline) of Smyrna TN, Emily West of Memphis TN and 9 great-grandchildren.
Gale was preceded in death by her parents, Bert & Irene Curtis and older sister, Sylvia Walp and daughter-in-law, Laura Mitchell.
