"Bill" died peacefully surrounded by loving family on Saturday, November 9, 2019 after being hospitalized from a fall. Bill, a Nashville native, was born November 30, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Carothers and Mary Elizabeth Oman Carothers. Bill was a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy, and Vanderbilt University School of Engineering. At Vanderbilt he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Bill served honorably in the Tennessee Air National Guard.
Bill's entire professional career was spent at Oman Construction Company. He was a Life Member of the Society of American Military Engineers, and past President of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.
Bill is survived by son Lt. Col. William Hedrick Carothers III(Tara), Ft. Meade, MD and daughter Caroline Victoria Carothers, Hilton Head, SC and grandchildren Hadley G. O'Hara, Parker J. O'Hara, Emmy V. O'Hara, IT William F. Carothers and Rachael E. Carothers; sister Beth Carothers Felch(Jim), brother John S. Carothers(Anne) and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by his dear friend, Joey G. Hinton.
Bill will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his happy laugh, thoughtfulness, love of travel and Titans football. In retirement, he especially valued his many friends, fun and travels while living at the Del Webb at Lake Providence Community.
On Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., a Celebration of Life service, officiated by Donovan Drake, will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Avenue, Nashville, Tn. 37205. Visitation will precede the service from 9:00 to 11:00. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
