William Earl Butler

Mr. William “Bill” Earl Butler, age 83, passed away on February 9, 2024 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY. 

Bill was born on November 26, 1940 in Zanesville, Ohio to Stella Mae Riley Butler and Harmon Butler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Anne Butler and sister, Virgie Steed. 

He played football in high school and helped his parents as the caretakers of the local Armory. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1964, travelling to Germany to work with the “Honest John Rocket”.

After the service he traveled to California and met his future wife, Bettye, at a friend’s wedding, which he was late for of course. They traveled back to Tennessee by motorcycle together and got married on July 17, 1976.

Family meant everything to Bill. He shared forty-one wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife Bettye Butler. Together they built a life full of love and cherished memories. Bill’s greatest joy came from becoming a grandfather at the young age of seventy-five to Riley Grace and then 3 years later to Georgia Anne.

Bill was a retired certified public accountant. He enjoyed taking his daughters to Vanderbilt football games as well as Vanderbilt women’s basketball games. Bill & his girls also frequented Opryland, air shows and Sara Lee golf tournaments.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Gail Butler and Whitney Butler Hussey, son in law, John Hussey, grandchildren, Riley Grace Hussey and Georgia Anne Hussey, as well as numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation with the family will begin on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00 am with the service commencing at 11:30 am and the burial to follow. All services will be held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN 37221.
