William Hutchins, Iii

Will Hutchins died peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2017 at home surrounded by family.

He was born in Atlanta, GA, the son of Ralph and Mary Lou Hutchins. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1965, and received a Master's in Divinity from Vanderbilt University in 1972.

Will had been a psychotherapist in private practice for almost 40 years. He was a pioneer in the field of alcohol and drug treatment in Nashville, and was an original staff member at Rap House, a crisis counseling center, which later became the Oasis Center. He worked with the late Scott Peck, conducting national community-building seminars. He also taught Tai Chi and QiGong classes. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Brenda J Hutchins; his two sons, Matthew (Cindy) of Asheville, NC and Timothy (Yuki) Poland of Denver, CO; grandson, Brooks W Hutchins; sister, Jane Hutchins of Tucker, GA.; in-laws Keith and Carolyn Carr, and Robert and Jan Merow of Morgantown, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue or the Nashville Humane Association. A private memorial service for family and close friends is being planned.
