William "Elmo" Mercer, Sr. ("Mo" to his friends) was born to William Fred Mercer and Lottie Johnson Mercer in Pollock, Louisiana, on February 15, 1932, and passed away at his residence in Leander, Texas, at the age of 88 years old. W. "Elmo" Mercer lived and worked in Nashville for many years in the music industry.
Mo was a lover of music; singing, writing, playing; he loved it all. He began writing music at age 14, and at his passing had written over 1600 songs.
His family describes him as "Larger than Life", always joking and making people laugh.
Mo was preceded in death by his parents William Fred Mercer and Lottie Johnson Mercer; son, William "Bill" Mercer, Jr.; and grandchild Beth Mercer.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Marcia Mercer; daughter, Kellye Jeffers; grandchildren, Courtney Mercer, Lindsey Murray, Hailey Mercer, Abby Mercer, Bruce Jeffers II, Captain Joseph Jeffers, and Kayla Jeffers; and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Pall bearers; Paul Mark, Darrell Osment, George Jr. Osment, Shawn Smith, Jim Corbitt, and James Kennedy. Honorary pall bearers include Bobby Walton, Ronnie King, Bobby Strickland, Bill Cox, Bill Woodard and Dean Eades.
Visitation will be Monday, December 7, 2020, 3:00 ~ 7:00, and again Tuesday, 11:00 ~ 1:00, with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00; all at the Freewill Baptist Church, located at 100 W Elm St., Ashland City, TN.
