William Marvin "Wildman" Pope Jr. age 72 of Fairview, passed away May 5, 2017 with his family at his side.
William was the son of the late William M. Pope Sr. and Wilma Langley Pope. He was born in Charlotte, NC on August 24, 1944. Following high school, he entered the United States Army and focused on his service and his young wife, Ann, whom he married February 13, 1964.
He made service to his country his career and retired with 20 years of service, having been in Vietnam, and working as a Drill Sergeant.
Though dedicated to his country, his greatest passion was reserved for his great-grandchildren, whom he adored, and his hunting cabin deep in Hickman County. He selected the area especially for the hilltop view of the surroundings. In recent years he also enjoyed trips to Tunica, MS.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by a son: William L. "Billy" Pope; granddaughter: Carolyn Pope; his granddaughter-in-law: Mary Pope; great-grandchildren: David Lee Pope Jr., Elly-Mae Huff and Addison Lee Pope; a sister: Sue (John) Law; and a brother: Michael (Cookie) Pope. He was preceded in death by his parents: William M. Pope Sr. and Wilma Langley Pope; a son: David E. Pope; and grandson: David Lee Pope Sr.
His family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, May 9 from 12 Noon until 8:00 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, officiated by Sister Shirley Goins. Burial, with full military honors provided by the United States Army will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. at Middle Tennessee State Veteran Cemetery.
